DOTS Method

DOTS is a powerlifting scoring system that calculates a score based on a lifter's total weight lifted and their body weight, allowing for fair comparisons across different body weight classes. It is calculated by multiplying the total of a lifter's best squat, bench press, and deadlift by a coefficient derived from a formula that takes their body weight into account. A higher dots score indicates a higher overall strength relative to body weight, and is used by federations like the USAPL to determine overall best lifters.

Total Lifts: A lifter's total is the sum of their best successful squat, bench press, and deadlift in a competition.

Coefficient: A coefficient is calculated using a specific formula that incorporates body weight, with slightly different constants for men and women to ensure fairness.

DOTS Score: The final score is the total lifts multiplied by the body weight coefficient.

Comparison: The dots score allows for a standardized comparison of lifters across all body weight classes. A higher score means a more impressive performance relative to the athlete's size.

Strongest Sigma Challenge Winner: The lifter with the highest dots score will be acclaimed "The Strongest Brother in Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated" - regardless of their weight class

The DOTS Method provides a modern and balanced way to compare participants of different sizes, unlike older systems that may have been biased toward certain weight classes. It also gives a more accurate representation of a lifter's strength-to-body weight ratio.
